University of Calgary Application Requirements
Below are the application criteria for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Undergraduate Applicants:
- Academic transcripts: You’ll need to submit official transcripts from your high school or previous university studies. For most international students, a minimum GPA of 75-85% is expected.
- Standardized test scores: Depending on your background, you may need to submit scores from standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, or an English language proficiency test like IELTS or TOEFL. Minimum score requirements typically range from 6.0-6.5 in IELTS and 80-100 in TOEFL-IBT.
- Personal statement: Write a compelling essay that showcases your academic achievements, motivations, and why you’re a good fit for McGill and your chosen program.

How to Apply
1. Create an account in the admissions portal
- Go to the University of Calgary on Online Application Portal
- Create an account using your name, email, and birthdate.
- A temporary PIN will be sent to your email account: retrieve the PIN, enter it and set a new password
2. Start an application
- Click on Start an application and select an application type (the term during which you want to start your graduate program).
- Complete all corresponding forms, which include as follows: personal information, academic history, program requirements, referees and additional data. Note that supporting documents will be added at a later stage, once your application has been submitted. Don’t forget to click “continue” to proceed.
3. Submit your application and pay the fees
- After filling out the application, finalize the application and pay by clicking the following button:
- The next screen will prompt you to the payment window
- Enter your security info along with a valid method of payment
- Click Submit
